Creating a Healthy School Culture
Schools strive to provide an environment that supports academic achievement and personal growth as children become young adults in our community. This environment gives students, staff and families multiple opportunities to make wholesome choices each and every day. The HEROES Initiative within the Welborn Baptist Foundation recognizes that choices for healthy eating and active living may not only foster academic success, but also shape student behaviors for the rest of their lives.
The HEROES (Healthy, Energetic, Ready, Outstanding, Enthusiastic Schools) Initiative provides multi-year technical and financial support to schools implementing a healthy school culture. This research-based coordinated school health model implemented in over twenty schools in the Tri-State has shown favorable trends in physical activity levels and nutritious food choices being made by students right here in our region. Applications for the 2016-2017 HEROES grant cycle are currently being accepted through April 29th at www.heroesinitiative.org.
