The Welborn Baptist Foundation only makes grants to organizations that are classified as tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code and public charities under section 509(a) of that code. Additionally, the Foundation may grant to public schools and universities that are exempt under Section 170(c)(1) of the IRC. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals or to for-profit organizations.

Question 2

In order to apply for Foundation funds you must have your 501(c)(3)determination letter in hand. It is not sufficient to have submitted paperwork to the IRS and be awaiting a ruling.

The Welborn Baptist Foundation funds in fourteen counties in Southeastern Illinois, Southwestern Indiana and Western Kentucky. If your organization is not located within this geographic area, it is not eligible for funding by the Foundation.

Section II

Before continuing with your Inquiry, a few reminders:

Requirements Helpful Hints
  • You will need to use your email address as your username and to create a password.
  • If submitting Inquiries on behalf of multiple separate organizations, you must use a unique email address for each in order for the system to recognize them as separate organizations
  • You will be required to enter your Internal Revenue Service Tax ID number for verification
  • You must provide evidence of your organization's tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The only acceptable documentation is a letter from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service
  • You will need to know the costs associated with your program/project, e.g., for personnel, operating, evaluation, etc.
  • If your email address has changed since last year's cycle, please create a new user name using your current email address
  • Upon successful submission, you will receive an acknowledgement email that includes a copy of your submitted responses
  • You are not required to complete your Inquiry in one sitting. You may save your work and return to it for modification prior to submission
  • If you prefer, you may prepare your responses offline and then paste your responses in the online spaces provided

This Inquiry is exclusively for projects in the Early Learning space. You will be required to explain how your program/project addresses at least one of the outcomes identified in the Early Learning Logic Model:

  • More families are equipped with best practice parenting tools and understand the importance of early childhood development. This leads to more families providing a level of care and interaction with their child that supports optimal development and learning
  • More pre-K providers receive education, technical assistance, and training regarding effective instruction, classroom environments, and child interactions. This leads to more pre-K providers delivering effective instruction and high quality class room environments/interactions
  • Increased affordable availability of high quality childcare, especially for those at risk of not meeting developmental and educational milestones
  • More students K-3 who are at-risk of not meeting academic milestones participate in remedial reading and math enrichment activities. This leads to more students K-3 developing grade-appropriate reading and math skills
