Why this matters?

Routine healthcare visits allow for early detection and management of health issues before they become serious. Early identification of chronic diseases and mental and emotional conditions generally lead to better outcomes, lower costs, and improved quality of life with more years of healthy living.

Prevention is a powerful tool for good health but is not accessible to all. Differences in preventive care become apparent by household income. Nearly 87% of adults with higher-incomes receive routine preventive checkups, compared to 82% of low-income adults.

Additionally, 77% of low-income residents say their households receive the physical health care they need, compared to 92% of residents with higher-incomes. More concerning, just 60% of low-income residents receive the mental healthcare they need, compared to 77% of residents with higher-incomes.

Both prevention and treatment are crucial to good health, but barriers persist. Among all adults delaying or not receiving care, the top reasons include:
